About Us

David Baird self-diagnosed his sensitivity to sulphites in 2006 after several years of food-related illness, and numerous visits to doctors and specialists. He is a former restaurateur and caterer, knowledgeable on food preparation and safe food handling. Because sulphite sensitivities are largely self-diagnosed, David has done extensive research on the internet and reading about this health hazard. He does not claim to be health expert.

Karen Baird, David’s wife, is not reactive to sulphites. She has learned about various sulphite reactions  from David and from talking to others who are sulphite sensitive. She is a writer and editor, and former photography coordinator with Company’s Coming Cookbooks. She also does not claim to be a health expert.

David and Karen created this website after facing frustration at the scattered information on sulphites which is available on the internet. In fact, one health organization website did not even mention that anaphylaxis is a possible reaction to this preservative, when other websites noted that several deaths had occurred in the U.S., leading to sulphites being banned from use at salad bars.
